Depends - are your carbs jetted for the pods/stock exhaust combo?
Or are they stock? If stock, go back to the stock box.
If they have been jetted (correctly) for the pods + stock exhaust, then stick with the pods.

the PO did no re jetting the exhaust is stock (but rusting badly) the only reason i like the pods is for ease of carb removal...i loathe!! the battle i have todo with stock airboxs...but they do cut down tuning issues.

    The simple truth is:

You can TUNE a Stock Airbox set-up to make the Bike run BETTER than any Bike running PODS!
Switch back to the Stock set-up and you won't have to constantly screw around trying to get some hitch out of the tuning.

How did you get to edit it, for some reason I am completely mindblanking!

Back on topic - I would get the stock box then.
Also - I don't get why everyone has such a wrestle with the carbs.

I have taken them off both bikes... and never had issue.
From disconnecting throttle/choke/clutch linkages, fuel line, unscrewing the clamps both sides, popping carb boots into the airbox, and pulling back and sliding out to the left, I bet it took me a whole 13 minutes or so.

Of course, getting a stock airbox BACK into the frame can be somewhat of a challenger in itself.........on most models.....don't know about the 1100's!

The airbox on the 1100 will go in without any trouble, just remove the carbs and it will slide right in. I had mine out a few weeks ago for painting.
My vote would be to put the airbox back in, I think they look better. Pods don't make it run any better, just harder to tune.

Oddball I see you have an 1100. I just happen to have a stock air box for that bike. Let me know if you want it. I can give you details if you are interested.

From my recent personal experiences, plus all the reading from the guru's here, I see that there is some room for negotiation here. I think it would help you to break this list into pro's and con's:

    Pro's:
You can get the airbox in without removing the engine like you do on the 750. (BIG pro)

Filter pods do make it more convenient to pull the carbs.

Keeping the stock exhaust means there's a good chance that you can easily tune the engine without rejetting.

Both pods and the stock air filter are easy to find.

    Con's:
Stock air box makes it more difficult to pull the carbs.

If your exhaust is rusting and due for replacement, you might have to go through the hassle of re-jetting and a lot of tuning.

The stock exhaust is hard to find, so even if you keep the airbox you might have to rejet anyway once you install a new exhaust. (Depends on what kind of aftermarket exhaust you choose)

I think the big jetting and tuning battle really comes into play once you replace BOTH the airbox and the exhaust and it depends on what kind of exhaust you get. I'm discovering that I can adjust my muffler baffle plates to provide near-stock back pressure and so tuning the carbs isn't so bad. I haven't re-jetted.
