Are they ready to ship yet? I ordered mine awhile back. If there ready I need to send my check in. I can hardly wait. Putting my forks back on this weekend, then I'll be ready for the carb adjustments. Already got the carb sticks and colortune plug. Just waiting for the yics tool now.

I just tried both links and they worked for me.

 

Needed a refresh for me as well - seems like the server is a bit heavily loaded at times... with the port number I'd guess it is a home pc. Didn't look to find out.

 

The links worked ok for me. A spin on filter would indeed be great. I just wonder if it really works?

 

Using a spin on filter is really nice. I built a spin on adapter once for my XS1100 using parts from the oil cooler adapter but it was a lot of work. I might just have to buy one of these for my 750 Seca.

 

It works great. I've got Mike Oberle's Spin-on Adapter, as well as the Carbon Fiber YICS Tool - and they are fantastic. I need to order another spin-on adapter for my other bike - a 750 Seca that I picked up late last year, though...

I'm curious about losing the cooling that the stock filter cover provides by being finned. I know my Seca gets overly warm sitting in any amount of traffic so every bit of cooling available is welcomed. Thoughts?

 

I really don't think the oil filter cap was really doing much cooling. If you want to cool down your oil, putting on an oil cooler, especially from the other Seca's works just great. Most XJ's actually have the frames to hold the oil cooler. Mind does, and it's an 83 Maxim 750.

 

Knowing the difference between running a computer processor with and without a heatsink (finned hunk of metal) - i.e. without = toast - I'm not so quick to discount the cooling effects of the filter cover. Further, my thinking is that if there was little to no benefit, then the cover would have been machined smooth - which I imagine is easier/cheaper to manufacture than finning it. But that's just one man's opinion - I don't have facts or figures to back it up.

If people are running them without heat issues, then cool (no pun intended).

Thanks for the tip on the oil cooler, too.

 

How long does it normally take to get the YICS tool?

 

I'm not sure yet. I put in an order in November and haven't heard from them yet.

 

hmmmm. can't wait that long. Is there anywhere other than the Yam dealer to get these? Maybe a little cheaper?

I placed an order last year and to date I still haven't heard anything.
I gave up thinking no longer being made or not wanting to deal with a Canadian??
I ended up buying a YICS tool off ebay.

I don't know if Mike Oberle follows this website or not - but I know that he posted an update of the YICS tools and spin-on adapters on several of the other XJ email lists/yahoo groups last week. I've forwarded the link for this thread to him so that he can take action.. But you might want to email him privately about the YICS tool.
