Just thought I would chime in and say hello to all the fellow XJers here. I've had a 81 Xj650 Maxim for the past 7 years or so. I bought a barely running 82 XJ1100 Maxim for 200 bucks over the winter. It was a good find. I cleaned the carbs.... twice but now it starts and runs with no problem.
After changing the oil, rebuilding all the calipers and master cylinders I was able to take it out for a short ride. I heard that these bike SOMETIMES have a second gear problem, so i wanted to make sure it didn't before I spent too much time and money on the rest of the parts and cosmetics all at once. It turns out that the gears are all there and I can continue the work.
I need a few parts which I have already sent a few posts on the forum. I'm hoping to find these parts pretty quick.
I see there are few people here from Michigan and I'm hoping to maybe get together for a ride or two through the season. Maybe help out a fellow XJer with getting their bike "up to par"
That's it... Just wanted to say HELLO!!

Welcome to the 1100 Maxim World. Alittle harder to find parts but the get up and go makes up for it.

welcome and make sure before you ride it again that those tires are not dry rotted (check the side walls for lots of cracks)...front end blow outs at 60 tend to clear your social calender for the month 8O

The tires are real bad and yes I was taking a chance. But it was a short ride just to push the gears to see what would happen. road it about 3 miles but not continuous miles. Country roads. No traffic. Starting and stopping to run through them more than once or twice. Downshifting, up shifting. My 650 is a great bike to ride 1 up. But I wanted something with a little more power and comfort. My wife is to the bike as the dog is to the car. If I'm going, she's going too. No disrespect of course. I love her dearly. But it's the only way to explain it.

Hello all! Just registered last night. I have an 85 XJ700 that I am almost done stripping down so I can paint the frame and tins. I bought it back in 2001 and rode it quite a bit and then made the mistake of letting her sit and made matters worse when she got kicked out of the garage for several months. I was very excited to find this site. I had no idea there were so many XJ owners out there.
