    Hi Everyone,

I picked up a '85 Maxim 700 X and will need to rebuild the instrument panel. Has anyone found metal housings from other bikes that work, or do I need to stick with trying to run down plastic replacements like the originals? Or is there an aftermarket replacement option?

Thanks for any direction. I did look up the OEM replacement costs, so I was looking to see if there were any other alternatives.

Do you need all of them? '84+ Virago guages seem to have the same chromed plastic covers, but of course they don't have the temp guage. And the air-cooled '85-'86 Maxim used the same housings.

Other than that, I haven't seen any aftermarket replacement parts for them.

Thanks for the Virago tip. Unfortunately, I do really need to replace them all. In its previous life, someone banged up those housing and gauges pretty good. It's in a good home now though. :D

I would really like to go with metal if that is an option, but it's not a big deal to go back with the original.

What kind of quality are you looking for?

I have a complete dash for the Maxim X, odo is somewhere in 20K's (don't know exactly). The letters have faded by sunlight but still readable.

The chrome covers are basically in tact, but the chrome has some scratches.

I could send you the complete dash from the Netherlands.
Not sure about the shipping costs though.
I'll be on vacation for the next two weeks, so I'll be able to reply after that.

As for the airboxcovers and the carb covers (20 Valves), they are considered as unobtainium, i think. They can't be ordered from Yamaha any more.
