Just got this 83 750 maxim. cleaned the carbs(twice)soaked rusty tank insides with evapo rust for two days. Installed inline fuel filter between tank and carbs. checked carb sync. changed tires, oils and put fresh tank of gas with some sea foam. Road tested. runs pretty well but seemed to lack power (im used to a madura 1200 though)also wants to linger the rpms high while shifting and when you stop it takes a few seconds to return to idle. I pulled each plug wire while running to check cylinder contribution (yes i got shocked) exept by the far right cylinder. I swapped a plug from hot hole and the misfire stays dedicated to right cylinder. i checked spark, right side does spark but its not nice and blue like it should be. seems to shoot erratic sparkes all over the place sometimes two bolts of spark at a time. What is the resistance of the primary and secondary windings supposed to be on this machine? are the plug wires on these coils serviceable? I dont have a service manual yet. also the tachometer quit working. it runs off the coils dont it? any help appreciated. ill have to bring my ohmeter home from work. thanks Jake.

On your cold cylinder did you check compression??? The plug caps unscrew from the wires. Unscrew it and cut about 1/2" off and screw it back on. See if that helps

No. compression tester at work too. but, while i was cranking with plug out it sure sounded like it was pretty good. popped loudly anyway. i didnt mess with it too much more as i have no equiptment to work with at the moment. Im thinking its the coil. I have a new battery in now(forgot to mention that earlier) but before the 2nd carb clean i was using a battery charger to crank and noticed the damn plug on right cyl would keep sparking like a sparkler for 1-2 seconds after you stopped cranking. damndest thing ive ever seen. as your suggestion on the plug wire, Ill unsrew it all the way, clip the end and re-do the connection all together. What is the ohm reading specs though-that will tell me. primary 4-7 secondary 10-20 k? Thats what my Suzuki is.

alright. checked compression on right cyl=130 psi. re-checked for contribution-had significant cotribution when fairly cold. ran bike hard..........bout 2 miles. fuel coming out air box drain. jesus, one back fire and id a been on fire. I ohmed the coils secondary-open circuit on both. the plug wires are shot. carbs need to come of as floats must not be set right. ( i didnt measure) I suspect plugged jets again too. Im gonna get new jets, needles and seats and coils. As for the fuel coming out air box, dont these damn things have overflows? why is it filling the airbox? Maybe the overflows are plugged up. anyway far right cylinder dead again after engine hot-bad wires. are the wires serviceable???????????guess ill find out cause im taking the coils off am gonna disect the wires. Bet the coils are good-its probably just the 25year old plug wiires. Man this forum has alot of posts everyday. bout like wal-mart service. Should have bought another suzuki.

Dude , hold up on any electrical work just yet. You need to address the flooding issue first. Your carbs are in need of help. If the carbs are flooding your spark can be at 1.21 jigawatts and it will never fire. Plugs are meant to fire vaporized fuel not liquid fuel. Lets figure out your carb issues first.

Len aka chacal has the parts you need way cheaper than the dealer. Scope those carbs out real good and check with Len on prices.
