I'm probably an idiot, but I got an oil question

So I got my new 81 XJ750 Seca (haven't updated my sig yet), and one of the first things I wanted to do was change the oil - so that was what I was doing tonight....

So I remove the filter housing, I get a small amount of oil flowing out.. (more then a cup - less the a 1/2 quart), and that's it....

I've emptied the oil on my 'non-running' seca and when i removed the oil filter everything poured out - so I thought something might be hokey with this new one w/ that small amount of oil coming out. On a whim I pressed the starter (didn't start the bike, less then 1 sec), and a flood of oil came out, then it stopped. I waited, then did the same thing and hit the starter, same thing happened....

    Ummm.. why? ;-)

Your non running SECA had way too much oil in it. Should only get about a cup out with the filter.

The oil drain is right below the filter housing. That's where you let the oil out.

If you want to make changing the oil easier in the future, get the spin on filter kit that chacal sells. I love mine, well the extra coin.

I was going to ask if you pulled the drain plug. :)
My first oil change I was looking for the drain plug.
The haynes manual shows the drain plug from the inside of the pan.
So I'm looking all over the bike for something that's on the inside of the motor.

Yeah I am going to get the spin on from chacal probably later in the season, already got that on the list.

LOL I feel like a moron, I'm chalking it up to eager anticipation just to save face, with myself ;-)
