mine does the same thing and wont start either. I was wondering myself if its my problem or not. I filled with enough oil (or so I thought) and it only comes on when I hit the starter. the nuetral light is on like its suppose to be too. is the problem just needing more oil? or do all the bikes flash the oil light while starting?

Sorry Hark, just struck me as funny.
The oil light should come on, this way you know if the bulb is blown.
Same thing in your car when you turn the key and everything on the dash lights.

The light coming on is normal. The problem is most likely the button itself needing its contacts cleaned. My '81 just started doing that and if I mash/wiggle the button it works. Time to take the RH pod apart and clean everything.
