I've got an 85 XJ700N that takes the HSC 33 Hitachi carb. I was wondering about the differences between the two carbs. Besides the differences in the jet sizes, is the main difference in the fit to different types of bikes the spaces between where they mount on the rack? Reason that I'm asking is, there are many more HSC 32's available at reasonable prices on eBay than there are HSC 33's
    Thanks
    Ken

I believe the number refers to carb throat diameter in millimeters so you have 32mm carbs and 33mm carbs which is most likely not going to work... at least not as a straight bolt-up.

So could he bolt up 32 mm boots to his cylinder head and run 32's?

I mean really, how difficult can this be? It's only a 50 cc engine size difference and you can buy all sorts of jets to achieve the proper fuel/air mixture.

The ID is 33mm and the OD is 39mm on the throat. Does anyone know what the OD is on the HSC32?
    Thanks

Thanks for all of the input. I'm gonna have to get a set of cheap carbs to re-build and keep on stand bye. Just trying to think ahead. 1.1mm OD could be gapped and, if they'll bolt up on their own rack, I suspect I would only have to get the right jets.

Intake manifolds are different between the XJ700 air-cooled models (which use the HSC33 carbs) and the 650/750 models (which use the HSC32 carbs)...t.........VERY different. You're going to have to use the XJ700 intake manifolds (I think, never tried otherwise) and that may cause an issue or two........

Oh well, it was a thought, just trying to do things just a bit more economicly. I just watched a set of XJ700N carbs sell on eBay for $130.00 w/shipping. Where I've seen the HSC32's sell for as little as $30.00 Go figure that just about everything on my bike is just a little bit more expensive than what everybody else pays. And if I swithc to pods, I would still have to invest in new jets too and, there goes any savings that I would have had, not to mention all of the bad rubber that I would find throughout the used carb rack. like i said, it was just a thought. Thanks all, for clearing up my options.
    Cheers
