I dont quite understand what the tool is used for. What do you do with it? I have a set of gauges that ive used to sync the carbs on a madura. Ive had these hooked up the the maxim and all the carbs were pulling the same amount of vacuum. Is this not good enough? The bike ran well. but I have a bad needle and seat and the #3 carb leaks gas(in proccess of getting new).

YICS tools block the ports that share vac between the cylinders/carbs.

That way each carb is isolated to it's own cylinder, so the vac readings are correct.

Usage instructions come with the tool! But's it pretty simple; in a nutshell, remove block-off bolt from YICS passage, clean passage, insert tool, flip lever, sync, remove tool, replace passage bolt, live happily ever after......

see chacal keeps saving my butt like this all the time, so do all the XJ members, there is more XJ info on this site than you will ever find in a service manual. thanks all of you for all your helpful advice and suggestions.

I lucked out. The SECA Came with a YICS tool. It is very painless. When you turn the lever on the end down you pinch the ends together. the rubber gormits in the tool expand and block the passages.

AHHHHH----makes sense now, Thanks guys. So they will most likely read the same without isolating each one, even if they are way off. cool.
