So i got the bike all back together and when i got it started... gas everywhere out the breather. i think i set my floats to high because i was trying to adjust them and get them all the same height. now, trying to lower 3 of them, nothing happens. the tang bends to lower the float but it doesnt actually lower and it makes the travel of the needle basically non-existant. one of them is still alright and changes height when the tang is slightly bent in either direction. do i need new floats? they are most likely the originals from 81. they still float but they're no good to me if they dont sit at the right height.

That's the thing about setting your float levels. They are dependent upon a number of factors... how buoyant each one is as well as the specific gravity of the fuel (which *can* vary a fair amount depending upon temperature and additives).

So you really have to set them all independently Vs. measuring.

what i do is us a small screwdriver under the float in front of the tang to support thr float while bending the tang.

The same height is important - the CORRECT height is critical.

i do the same and I found out that if you leave the pin in the float when it is adjusted the float will not bind on the pin. Mine seemed to be hanging up on the pin/float/carb mounting points...i polished my pins, the inside of the float(where the pin goes in) and cleaned the carb housing...
    Just a thought!!!!
