Up here in Detroit the roads are worse than dirt bike trails.
Instead of a nice relaxed ride it is a pothole dodging challenge.
I guess the city is too broke to fix the roads properly.
My fairing is getting the sh%$ kicked out if it.
Anybody else dealing with wrecked roads out there?

Roads are trashed here too. I hit one on the bike thought I was going to blow my front tire. Takes the fun out of riding. For sure.

Was riding in center city Philadelphia last week and came up on a pothole literally 2.5 ft deep, 4 ft wide and 3ft long. Would hate to have been the car to make that one....

The roads are post snow plows, and pre road maintenance crews up here. Some of the holes have to be 6 inches deep or more, with perfect right angle edges on the top of them. When I hit one, I'm for sure bottoming out with an apocalyptic bang.

What I worry about is hitting that unseen pothole at highway speed and cracking my aluminum rim. Hasn't happened yet, but I've hit at least one hole that made me stop and check for damage. They had chipsealed the road without filling in the pothole, making it almost invisible until I was right on top of it. :x Just be careful on those backroads.

I hit one last year that blew out a fork seal - they were bad in the first place, but the pot hole finished them off.

Depending on where you live, some government will cover the cost of repair for that stuff. I know the DC government covers cost of damage directly from potholes. Have had a bunch of friends and myself refunded for tire damage.

Here are some potholes on one of our provincial highways. We have a lot of dead straight roads, but I guarantee you won't fall asleep driving on them!

Bought a brand new Chevy Aveo back in '04.

Hit a pothole on a major highway - MID SUMMER -
in 06. Two year old car.

Blew my tire clear open on the side, and destroyed rim beyond repair.

Steel wheel @ dealer was ~$150, without tire.

Bought 4 new aluminum wheels, new tires mounted, balanced, shipped to my door from Tirerack.com, for $510.

POTHOLES ARE BAD IN A CAR.
On a bike, I hope to god I never hit a hole like that....

Just another reason to stay back from other vehicles so you have more time to 'read the road'.

PEI is like a giant sand dune and the roads can be bad all year, however in the spring they are the worst.
Last June I hit a pot hole while in a 60 zone, and unfortunately my fork pressure was really low. I hit and went down fairly hard. The forks compressed, I most likely hit the brakes and the front wheel stopped dead, the back end came up and around and slammed me down. Bike wrecked, body didn't feel to good wither, but I walked away.
Hitting another one is my worst fear. I have been somewhat nervous riding ever since my accident, but at this time of year it is even worse.

I hope everyone stays safe, and the roads get fixed up soon.

The roads here have survived suprisingly well this year.
In New York if someone has already reported the pothole then you can collect damages.
I make it a habit to call in holes so if some else hits it they're covered.

yeah they are. Apologies to everyone not from around here, but there is a stretch of I-94 between about 8 mile up to past I-696 at 12 or 13 mile where they apparently ground off lane stripes at some point in the past, and they've turned into a series of 3 foot long, six inch wide potholes along the lane boundaries. I shudder to think what would happen if I were to catch my front wheel in one...

Don't get me started on the futility of "cold patching" freeways...
