I thought I would install some flush mounted turn signals on the front. This has caused my turn signals to no longer work. Initially I thought it was the turn signal relay. I was mistaken. It seems that the lights aren't grounding out properly, however they light up. Does any one have any insight for me? Would an LED conversion kit fix the issue?

    Thanks

I read on another website recently that there is a problem converting to LED turn signals since they don't draw enough current to make the flasher unit work. Could be the same problem here if they were working before.

The problem you face is that the LED Circuitry doesn't draw enough Current to make the Flasher and the Auto Cancel Module work.

Signal Dynamics Company, maker of the famous "BACK-OFF Rear Brake Light Modulator", has a device that you can use with LED's that simulates the current draw and makes everything work as it should.

They also market a New Device that allows the Rear Turn Signals to Come-On with the Brake Light >> BUT << Still retain their function as Turn Signals, too.

I'm running the "BACK-OFF" Module to fire (3) 7-LED Light Strips mounted on the Plastic above my Brake Light between the Grab Rail Bars.
When I touch my Brakes, the LED Strips fire 5 Times and then come-on Full.
The system resets immediately, so if I "Pump" the Front Brake Handle ... I get ... "Strobes Flashing Brakes" which help to get tailgate-er's off your butt.

    Rick,

Any pics of your set up? Always interested in visibility measures.

I was looking through all of the posts on LED and when I have time I'm going to shoot for those mods to the electronics (seen here LED Mods) and just convert everything over, and put in a HID (or whatever is good at that point) headlight.

Trying to do what everyone else is, increase visibility, reduce wear and tear and maintenance ;-) So all tips, tricks, hints, and suggestions are good to hear

I am going to mess with it today. I will try to figure out the picture thing too. It is a 1983 XJ750 Midnight Maxim. I have had the carbs rejetted and K&N pod filters installed. I am obviously working on installing LED lamps. What I am shooting for is a cafe racer style bike, but a luggage rack from time to time.

A quick fix (without auto cancelling) is to buy a new generic flasher for $2.
There are mods for electronic flashers that will take advantage of the cancelling feature in the forums here.
The "cheapy" is a two pronger and that's all you need for flash.

So, I have put LED flashers on all four corners. New flasher two prong relay to accomodate the flashers. All parts are manufactured by motrax purchased at cycle gear. I hit the turn signal switch (left or right), all four turn halfway on and nothing. I am looking for a clue, some help, anything from anyone please.

Also, different subject, would the side covers from a SECA fit on a maxim?

have you tried ebay? look up LED conversions? I am dealing with the same thing the problem with this is the resistance in the circut is not enough I am an A.S.E. certified tech. and have a lot of electrical knowledge and still am havieing a hard time with figuring the correct resistane of my lights. I was trying to install a resistor for this problem to increase the resistanse the problem is radioshack doesent go big enough for the resistors. What you need is around a 25 ohm 50 watt resistor and the don't cary them that big because when you get the resistance that high you create to much heat so you need a cooling mechanisim in it which is what the LED conversion is it is the resistor mounted in aluminum housing that will make your flasher think it has 2 1156 bulbs in it in stead of 2 LED or 194's I think they are about $10-$20 a set you may need 1 for each bulb to work correctly? let me know what works or if you have any other fixes thank you, Jeff.
