Up for sale is my first-ever motorcycle, "Mad Max". "Max" is a Seca not a Maxim, so don't be confused by the name I gave 'im.

    The Good:
Valves in spec (but will need checked & adjusted at the end of the season)
NEW Avon front tire (250 miles on it, rear tire has lots of tread, no cracks, not dried out)
    KONI rear shocks
Freshly replaced gauge cluster (clear, colorful, functional)
Starts 1st time, every time. Idles well, doesn't stall.
Carbs are in great shape. Fuel enrichment circuit works perfectly. Engine pulls hard to the redline and beyond in all gears.
All gears shift correctly, no clutch slippage.
    All electrical systems function perfectly.
Upgraded to blade style fuses (crappy OEM fuse block removed)
Wiring harness is solid and un-hacked except to install the blade fuses.
Already installed external, inline fuel filter.
    Brakes stop well.
Forks are smooth and not pitted.
Bike is very complete. Only thing really missing is the "security" chain.
    No cracks in the frame.
Fresh fluid in the rear differential.
HEAD BEARINGS are SMOOTH & TIGHT.
VIN and engine numbers match, so it's the original engine.
    Clear Title.

    The Bad:
Fork seals are weeping (after 28 years, go figure)
    4-1 Exhaust
    Supertrapp with 8 baffle plates
Filter pods. Stock airbox is long-gone
(all of this could be good or bad depending on what you're looking for)
High mileage. Miles unknown, 52,000 + based on the last known odo reading before the old odometer gear stripped. (Everything works in the new cluster)
Paint is absolute crap. I tried to rattle-can the tank black but it didn't take very well.
The bike runs really well, but I still recommend a thorough carb sync at the end of the season after the valves have been adjusted.
Engine looks dirty, not very attractive. Face it, the bike is just ugly.
Needs a crush-washer for the oil drain plug. It drops a dime-sized spot after it's parked.

    The optional:
The bike, by itself is for sale at 700.00. It is ready to ride for the entire season right now. You don't have to tear it all apart while your buddies are out having fun. I just made a 250 mile trip (on top of the 3,000 local miles I've ridden it) and it ran perfectly, like a sewing machine, no fiddling.

For $900.00 I'll include the giant pile of parts I've accumulated for it:

Spare tank (fuel level sender & petcock included. Repaint with no downtime!)
Spare left AND right side covers
SPARE FORKS (rebuild 'em while you keep riding the bike and install 'em in an afternoon!)
Spare carbs (complete, but need proper jets and cleaning)
Spare tail cowel and tail light assembly
Spare functional switches (lights, horn, etc)
    Spare functional horns
    Spare turn signals
Spare fog light (White. Amber light is on the bike now)
Spare seat (Reupholster without any down time!)
    Spare triple-T
    Owner's Manual
    Haynes Manual

*If you're a new rider with no gear, I'll include a Speed & Strength textile, armored sport-bike jacket that matches the bike for $40 additional dollars. It's clean and low-use. Jacket was $180.00 new. Bought in December, size Large.

Why waste time scouring eBay for all this stuff when you can get it right now? You could do most of a cosmetic refurbish with no downtime!

    Conditions of sale:
NO TEST RIDES. You can sit on it, you can start it, you can rev it up. I will gladly ride it for you and run through the gears for you to observe. The sale price is less than $1k, so cash only. (I'll take Paypal if you pay the asking price in full, including the spare parts) No delivery, no shipping. You transport. Well...maybe I'll help with local delivery.

Purchase the bike alone, or the bike with the ENTIRE lot of spare parts. I will sell the spares online otherwise. I make every attempt to be complete and honest. The bike isn't perfect, but I'm not asking a "perfect" price.

    Thanks for reading.

He's not parting it out if that's what you mean. He wants it as a commuting bike.

Giving up? No. It was a vastly educational experience in motorcycling and motorcycle engine theory and practice. These are damn good bikes. However, it was always my intention that the XJ would be my training wheels. I always knew that I'd be upgrading although it did happen about a year sooner than I expected.

Make no mistake, the Seca totally colored the way I view motorcycles now. Initially, I wanted nothing to do with sport bikes. I was an H-D fan all the way. After feeling the blast of acceleration and speed that the Seca provides, I knew I could never ride my "father's cruiser". I had to have something that could do both. I agonized for quite a time over whether to get a VMAX or a Raider and I was leaning towards the 'MAX the entire time. Then I found my Yammi Warrior 1700 and LOVED it's style, and ability to really carve the corners with the best of them, yet be comfortable for long distance cruising.

You've all been fun, extremely helpful and very patient with me and I will be forever grateful. My immediate plans are to get out of my townhouse and into a single family home with at least a single car garage so another Seca could be in my future.

Oh, I'm not suddenly "anti-XJ". I'll ride with anyone in my area, anytime so email me!
