So. For the last couple of mornings, when I try to start my bike. It won't fire up. Turns over just fine, has spark, plugs are wet, but it won't catch and start. When I get home around 5:00 in the afternoon, it fires right up.

Three things are needed for the motor to run, fuel, spark and compression. Would the chilly temp of the morning have an effect on the compression. It is 7 deg C this morning, the bike site in a unheated/uninsulated garage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ken

have you tried starter fluid sprayed into the airbox? mine is notorious for cold mornings, the problem seems to be in most cases is the enrichment circuit in the carbs , youll have to pull them and make sure they are clean, other than that maybe checking your coils to make sure you have enough spark to get it to fire but im guessing its in the carbs since its cold blooded just like mine!

No, haven't tried that. Remove the air filter and spray it into the carb openings as you turn it over?

If you do that be careful as it my backfire and a nice ball of fire will come back at you! This is more likely with gas in the air box but It could happen.
Check the choke plungers on you carbs!
    Good luck

here is one important question, as my bike also has this problem only when it is parked on a slanted surface for a length of time it will not start. i was wondering if maybe where you park your bike at at night is on a slanted surface?

Mine did the same thing. Below 40F (4C I'll Canadianize it for you :p) my bike refused to start. It would take copious amounts of ether to get it going. Once warm all was good.

My enrichment circuit on two carbs was dirty filthy nasty. Even after the PO swore he rebuilt and cleaned the carbs the summer before.

On a nice rainy weekend go here www.xjbikes.com/Forums...=8918.html and clean up your enrichment circuit.

I betcha it'll start when it's cold out when you're done.

Could and does. I nearly burned down my bike and garage doing this. Luckily the fire extinguisher was handy. You DON'T want to find out how hard it is to clean extinguisher powder out of the airbox. Leave the air filter in. Follow the directions on the can.

Oh, and clean your carbs. ;)
