Has anyone used these on their XJ?

Curious about a few things, 1) I assume i'd have to go through the processes that others have documented to get my system to play nice with the LED configuration..? 2) From the looks I think they should just mount right up physically and 3) Whats everyone thing of them ;-)

    1) if it's LED then you will HAVE to upgrade/modify your syste,.
    2) they should mount right up
    3) i personally think they look ugly. Too flashy for my taste. But that's my oppinion only.

I can see where they would be considered too flashy (thought crossed my mind too). However, I actually think they might be a good counter to the black beast that is my bike ;-) At least from the visibility angle ;-P

If you mount one pair of them (either front or rear, not both) you won't need to change the flasher. If you run all four with LEDs, you will need an electronic flasher (about $12 at any auto store)

The automatic flasher canceling thingy never worked on mine either. I don't need one. Just see the reflection of the signals on the chrome and I always remember to shut them off.

The 3-pin LED flasher fits right into the stock relay socket like it's supposed to be plug&play.....but actually 1 pin in the bike's socket goes to the auto-cancel which is ignored, and the corresponding pin on the LED flasher is grounded somewhere for the electronics in it. So no more auto-cancel if it worked anyway.

If you feel ambitious, you can get a few cheap 1157 socket's and replace all the signals with 1157 LED bulbs, just hook the running light side of the sockets up to 12v with the key or wire them to a switch....I think they look good and people can see you better too.

i was thinking about just changing the bulbs, but my front blinkers are wrecked as it is (PO used a clear epoxy to mend...and electrical tape....and gorilla glue...and.... something else that I don't think i want to know what it is ;-)

So i figured i'd just replace all four in one shot. Ultimate goal is to get whole system to LED. I have a spare bike that is mostly complete so i was going to do the electrical mod's and all that on the spare parts as I have time (hahaha, oh man - i kill myself.. free time?! whats that?!) and then just transfer onto my running bike when done. I'm not afraid of solder or rewiring or anything like that.

    Appreciate the tips and advice!

jgb, I just bought a LED set to give them a go. I am expecting the wires to be too short for the rear. I have a set of Vmax signals on now, and the rear wires were too short as well. What I did was to make an extension for each wire with a male and female end. It was just a plug and go.

I know for the LEDs a new flasher is required but should be no big deal. I opted for some like this without the side marker light.

If they come in next week, I'll do the install next weekend. I'll let you know what I find.

please do, pics would be great too ;-)

I'm probably going to pick up at least one set, to see how they work and how they look. I like the idea for the extensions for the plug and go setup - useful if I end up changing them out a few times to find the one I want ;-)

Well..... Got the LED signals, and hooked one up to test. Got a fast blink and it was not very bright. Pulled the tank off and looked at all of the wires running into the stock flasher relay.

Net, net is that I am canceling this project. Anyone want to buy a set of four LED turn signals and an electronic flasher?

I moved on and installed new handlebars yesterday and a street shield today. And after getting to the street shield, I'm glad I didn't install the LED's. They would not have been long enough for the shield.

I went thru several types/brands of LEDs before I found ones that were bright enough to suit my needs. Some of the cheaper ones that say they are real bright, are usually shown in a dark setting to make them look bright. They were not bright at all. Infact most of them are not even as bright as the stock bulbs.
It also depends on if your concerned with safety or just getting the "look" of the LEDs. I see alot of custom choppers/bobbers with LEds that look nice until they turn them on and find you can't notice them very well unless your looking right at them (not safe) There's alot of drivers out there that don't notice us the way it is, and dim signals are just another excuse to blame an accident on the biker ("Hey, I didn't see him"!)
My tailight is an LEd truck light and is bright (been told so by many) and gets your attention, which is just what I wanted to be safe. My turn signals on the rear are wired to the brake light also, so they come on with the brakes too. That will get your attention!
    Here's what they look like:

Do you have a part number for the electronic flasher?
