Completely tore down carbs, split the racks, before I pulled the butterflies I noticed #2 butterfly after lossening the sync and idle screws all the way, #2 butterfly was not all the way closed I could see a gap at the bottom where it was not closing all the way. So I proceeded and replaced the shaft seals and fuel orings I put it back togeather and the same.

Should this gap be there? It doesnt bind when I open and close. It just wont close all the way like the others. This is the first time this 82 seca ever had the butterflies removed. I am original owner.

    Any input will be apprecieated.

Do a search on bench sync. After you get them back together, that is needed before you put the carbs back on the bike.

Yes, there should be a slight gap at the bottom for all 4.

    NightHawk,

When you changed the seals you need to center the butterfly back in its hole and make sure its in the correct way. If its backwards it will never seal. Remove the carb rack and look closely at that carb. Remove the butterfly and make sure its in right. Reinstall it and work it around so it is completely closed BEFORE you tighten the screws. Once tightened work it open and closed several times to make sure there is no bind. Also make sure you locktite those screws or they will end up inside your cylinders. Good Luck and hope that helps.

another great point. sometimes you can see the imprint of the curved mill marks from the shaft, on the butterfly. This can help figure out which way they go on.

I did one carb at a time and before I took screws out of butterflies I put arrow on it facing up. I will loosen the screw back up and see if ther is any movement side to side which would alow them to close.

    Thanks.

Update, I can push number 3 just about closed with pressure on it from fingers, still a gap but not much.

Ok Thats a sign that it may not be in there quite right. I use a pick to move the butterfly back and forth to get it so it will close as far as possible. It should close completely when your done. If you hold a pen light on the other side of the carb you should barely see anything shining through. Maybe alittle near the shaft sides. Let us know how it turns out.

I had one that I had to work with a little before it would seat right. Double check your sync screws to make sure they aren't touching.
