I have seen a bunch of different posts with people going over 100, most power at 9000, etc.

I haven't been to 100 or 9000, but was curious if there are different RedLines on these bikes. My 650 non-yics has a tack on it the Reds at 7500. Is this the norm?

The XJ700X redlines at 10K rpm (and it will go over that if you want the risk)
You can't ride it and NOT go over 100 (it's too damn fun) 8O
100 is just barely out of third gear!

650 Seca redlines at 9.5Krpm, you must have a nonstock tach.
The power band starts at 7-7.5K.
Mine pulles really hard, like a second power band, at 9.5K.
I regularly push it into the red.

my XJ redlines at 9.5k. Fastest I took it up to was 105 in 5th. Not sure of the of the tach reading, but she could have pulled harder and faster.

    Hound. Thats a non-yics 650 yes?

If so, I been thinking of changing my gauges out and that might be the final straw...

Yep. Haven't run the mph up that high, but I can attest that when you are near the redline, special care is required because you can break traction on the rear tire pretty easy. It only takes one little bump.

Redline in first will take you pretty close to 55.

Seca 550 tach redlines at 10K, the motor will pull right into it if I let it, in all 6 gears.

Over 100mph should only be attempted (attempt, yeah right, achieved is more like it) waay away from civilization, and please be sure you have tires less than 3 years old FIRST. AND I'M NOT ADVOCATING IT but it sure is fun to pull redline in 3rd, 4th and 5th...

Joe is right about the breaking traction thing; I've found you need to be JUDICIOUS with the throttle if you're cranked into a corner with any more than 6K on the tach, the "upper powerband" will light up the rear if you go honkin' on it...

Find an over-80 speedo if you're going to go to all that trouble, so you know what an "indicated 95" looks like...

    Good Lord Guys!!!
I'm just getting back into biking after a looooong break and thought I got a bike that wouldn't scare the crap out of me ( my wife thinks I got one I might not hurt myself on).
Maybe if I find a way to lock it out of the top two or three gears..............
