So I'm making some good progress on X1 project.
Working on the front wheel and I'm struggling on what to do to the brake discs.
I'm pretty sure they aren't SS so I shouldn't sand and polish them out, painting is an option but what color would look good (read not-stupid looking)

They aren't horrible, but not nearly as pretty as the rest of the parts.

    Options?

Bead blast, mask and paint with PJ1 caliper paint to suit your tastes.

I repainted mine gloss black, they look great.
I mearsured the center part to be painted.
I then set a compass for half that distance.
Used the compass to draw a circle on an old shirt box.
Cut out the circle and glued the box onto the rotor with this craft glue.

Sprayed her up with the black, then clear coat.
Soap and water washes the glue right off.
Any overspray which was minimal, I took off with some 600 wetsand paper.
I've got pics, I will post a bunch soon.
    Good luck.
P.S. I painted the bolts and retainers too, used masking tape in the socket to torque them down.

I used Duplicolor caliper paint on the hub of the EBC I got for the '83; you could probably use any high-temp paint (not VHT header paint) and it should work. That will give you color options too if you want to get fancy.

If you want it to look original, use Duplicolor low-gloss black engine enamel. It's VERY close to the original Yamaha low-gloss black.

I'll try to match the rim since they were not painted originally.
I have a couple cans of the duplicolor that are a close match.

Has anyone seen the high temp caliper paint in a "aluminum" or silver color that would be close to the original.

Trying to keep SOME of the original look
