    They are pretty unobtanium.

I have a custom backrest/luggage rack, and allthough it's not stock or YAMAHA... It's perdy shweet!

Hmmm.... Someone has placed a bid now. Saw the guy has a reserve on it. Wonder where that lies? What should these go for these days?

What I do in situations like this is decide what the maximum I would possibly pay would be, and put that in as a bid. Then I ignore the auction until I get the email telling me I won or got outbid.

Personally, I don't like to have to pay more than the original list price for stuff; but then there are things that have gone crazy high lately like 550 Seca right side covers.

I'll bet his reserve is at least $50 or $60.

I have to admit to paying more than 25 yr old original list for a part or more.
Will trade my buttonless to the button winner!

Not that I buy anything from ebay anymore, but when I did, I pretty much ignored reserve bid auctions. If the seller doesn't can't be bothered to tell us what they want for whatever they're selling, then I can't be bothered to bid on it.

I have one, doesn't have the stock pad, but it works, that and a spare set of carbs which I will NOT part with. I sold a backrest on ebay about a year or so ago, and that puppy went for $211! nuts, I bought the bike for just over double that...If anyone wants this backrest (no stock pad, it's got a homemade one on it) throw me an offer, not looking to make a killing on it, I have one already and it is in vgc.

Well, checked the ebay listing and it's up to $61 and still hasn't tripped the reserve. Looks like it is going to go for a good price.

If you can find a good upholstery guy, they can put the button in for you. I had my seats recovered (they were still stock, torn etc) and He even saved the Yamaha writing on the back of the passenger seat, as well as the Maxim on back of the back rest. buttons and all, gorgeous job all for $175 and he had it for me in less than 36 hours. My dad is very jealous, he's going to have him do his seats and he is in PA. Now, if we could get his body guy and my upholstery guy together, we'd be doing well.

There have been one of them backrests on there about every week for the last 4-5 weeks. It is driving the price down. I have one hangin in the garage Not being used with original pad, button and writing. It is also NOT being sold.

For those who have one of these backrests, perhaps you can answer a question relating to the original upholstery. I have one on my 1985 XJ700N, and I am puzzled by the zipper at the bottom which allows access to the padding. I am guessing the stated intent was to allow one to adjust the firmness, but since this cannot also be done with equal ease to the seats, I wonder if it was intended to be a stealthy, small volume storage area for, ummm, whatever one might put in a small volume storage area. Any guesses or related experiences?

Up to $86 and the reserve is still not tripped. Looks like he is going for the big bucks.
