82 XJ650RJ, I cracked my airbox at the boot edge of # 1 carb and could put some silicone on it but would replace the box if a good price came along. But I can't see how to get it out 8O . By the way, that was a few months ago, after leaving the boots in WD40 overnight I got all 4 on in 10 minutes today!

Please, I'm only in 1st gear!
    Thanks

Some say you can get it out by distorting it, but I say it can't realisticaly be done with the engine in.

So soaking in WD40 softened the rubber? I have never heard of that trick. The usual trick is the wrap them in a towel and place them in a dryer for a bit.

Dryer have been the one I have heard (my boots are like new thankfully)

You can even use a hair drier - just trying to warm them up but a hair drier cold get a spot too hot.

If I was to use a microwave I'd use a wet paper towel and heat carefully. You wouldn't want to melt them.

This definitely belongs is a FAQ somewhere.

The consensus seems to be that it is possible for the 650's and 550's. My personal experience is that it's not possible to remove the airbox intact from a 750 (SECA, at least) without removing the engine.

Not sure about 900 or 1100 models.

It's NOT possible on the 550 Seca; I've tried. Gotta pull the mill on those.

I think the 750 Maxim will go in and out the same way. I'm going to try it here later this week and let you guys know for sure. Wish me luck

I think I just realized  the video ended by showing how to remove the airbox! instead of my first thought - he didn't get it in  I'm good for that sort of crap
