I was wondering how many seca owners have changed the front brake set up? And what did ya change it to?

    Thanks!

Bigfitz just did a retro fit on his 550.
I believe he went with Brembo.

The only brake mod I'm doing is braided lines and a polished master cylinder. Of course now that I'm keeping mine standard... :)

would the 550 set work with anti dive? I would love to keep it. On my 81 it works really well, the 82, not sure since I haven't riden it.

Here's one from the other direction.
I recently acquired and 82 xj 550 Maxim and got it fixed up and running. One of the fixes I wanted to do was replace the front brake lever as mine is broken. After a new Yamaha lever wouldn't fit I determined that the master cylinder had been replaced with one that apppears to be from a Honda. After looking at some pictures I noticed that everybody elses 550 has just one front disc while I have 2.
Anybody know if this is a common mod or am I going to have one helluva time finding pads to fit it when the time comes?

Upon further review (or closer inspection) the brake calipers actually say Honda on them and the wheel doesn't match up with anybody elses either. Apparently a PO decided he needed to stop in a hurry. He must have stayed really late at the bar also to figure out these parts would fit since there don't appear to be any modifications to the fork and even the brake line splitter looks like it belongs there.
Guess I'll just be happy I can stop quick for now.
My initial rides indicate that getting going is not a problem.

After a bunch of tries I got 1 picture uploaded. It's under JTs 550 Maxim. I've got a bunch more but apparently this thing isn't going to let me upload any more right now.

I have a wheel for this front end, been sitting at the house for 15 years.
So when we find out what it's from the mystery will be solved.

Well the whole picture thing was an adventure anyway.
By comparing with pictures of other maxims I have determined that the forks, wheels, brakes, master cylider and associated plumbing are all Honda but I don't know which one. It has 11" disks (yeah, I'll get around to getting a metric yardstick one of these days) which aren't much smaller than the ones on my 1/2 ton truck.
Much as I would prefer to restore this bike to stock a quick trip through e'bay convinced me it just aint gonna happen right now.
Maybe somebody who needs the extra stopping power will be looking to trade someday but for now what the heck, it works.

The front end came from a 1982 Honda CB 650 Nighthawk. The wheel is known as a Comstar.

Deborah newbie here. Got a new handlebar mounted master cylinder from Chacal for about $89 I think, its black. Had already purchased stainless lines to fit the existing system. Got a differrent junction, made a bracket, ran the line from the new junction to the master. Am using the existing switch with the handle removed.

Recommended going wtih a double banjo directly from the master to the calipers and getting stainless lines off ebay from lines pro which will make them custom fit. The think they run about $60 for two lines and $80 for four if you get the anti dive lines made also.

Most JAP bike M/C's will work - just make sure you have an M/C for a twin disc if you're running twin discs (although you can use a twin disc M/C on a single disc).

What fitting ends did you get at the calipers and anti dive, were they the 0 Deg. or the 15 Deg. mine have a very slight bend but that could be from the PO bashing in to things.
