1982 XJ550 Maxim blowing smoke

    I have a question. My Maxim has been sitting for about a month while I was recovering from a knee injury and when I went to start it up today it was blowing smoke from the exhaust really bad. Before I started it I made sure there was oil in it. I was hoping someone could tell me what is causing this and approx. how much it will cost to repair.

    You might need to post what "type" of smoke it is (was) - if its blue smoke, you're burning oil - white smoke I believe is water/moisture.

    It was dusk, so I couldn't tell if the smoke had a blueish hue to it but it did smell a little like burning oil. If I get home from work earlier tomorrow than I did today I'll fire it up to check the color.
