Ok, I've gotten the tach cable housing out of the engine, and I've taken it all apart. I've replaced the o ring and now I'm putting the new oil seal in...

The oil seals have a "U" shape to the, so one side of the oil seal is flat, and the other side has two raised edges, forming the "U".

My question is which side of this seal goes toward the engine and which side goes toward the cable?

The old seal had the U facing into the engine, but the old parts leaked oil too, so I don't know if this is correct.

    Anyone got an answer?

Chacal to the rescue... Man that guy not only sells all of the parts for the bikes, but he could probably put bikes together in his sleep.

Seriously, if you need a part, check with him

The U should face the engine, and the flat side should face the cable. This is correct positioning.

It's not in my clymer manual or my shop manual. Guess maybe I need to get the XJCD.
