There is a 1983 Honda CM450 for sale on my street. He is selling it as is. He says it has not run in 5 years.

He says it needs a new battery, the carbs need cleaning, and he says if you turn the fuel petcock to ON, the seals in the carbs leak.

It has 3360km on the odometer, which looks original. the bike is in awesome cosmetic condition, and comes with an over sized windshield, and a sissy bar.

He claims he was the first owner, and no one but him has ever rode in.

He wants $1300 as is. Is it worth it? My younger brother is looking for a small starter bike.

Looked up 1983 Honda CM450E on Kelley Blue Book and a retail value of $1045. 1983 Homdamatic CM450A on the same site has a retail value of $1115.

You can argue about the value of either of the numbers and whether KKB or Edmunds is better/worse, but $1300 for a non-running bike is alot.

My Opinion Running it may be worth near that - as is half or less.

You need battery $50 - 2 Tires $180 mounted - Carb rebuild $100 doing it yourself and that is minimal. It may need more

So about $350 plus oil, filter, flush the brake system ..... and your time to get it on the road.

Agree with Bill. You are going to pay for the last 5 years of non-maintenance. From what I have seen, 'project' bikes are in the $200 to $750 range (80's bikes) unless it is something special.

You said "KM" on the odo, so I suspect you're not in the States? Even so, $1300 CDN or AUD is still a lot of money for a non-runner, no matter how nice it looks. I'm in agreement; I wouldn't go over $500 or $600 no matter what currency.

Agreed, for 1300 bux you should be able to get a running, in good condition 400cc bike up here.

Like many ppl on this board say, sometimes a bike that's driven regularly with 50,000km is a better bike than one with 5k and hasn't run regularly.
