I was wondering if a LePera seat for a Sportster would fit a stock 81 xj 650. The only seats that I can find on the net that are made for this bike are very ugly and don't give me selection. But this site has a nice selection of seats. I hope someone can help me with this.

You can get any seat you want to fit your XJ. The seats on that site won't fit though - different seat pan.

Find someone in your area that does upholstery and/or motorcycle seats specifically. Bring them your seat. They'll take the old cover & foam off, leaving just the plastic pan. Tell them or show them a picture of what you want - wait, pay your money, and there ya go - new seat.

I had my seat recovered a couple years back by a local guy here - $90 canadian. A full custom job with mods to existing foam would probably run you around $150. All new foam and/or a gel pad insert - well then you're headed over the $200 mark.

I did that last year, but I wanted something cooler looking. Thanks anyway.

What he's saying is that you can have your seat customized to look just like the seat that you want. A good custom upholstery shop can work wonders.

I'm talking about getting a seat that looks like this. Now this seat is more narrow at the back, mine is not. I really think that there must be a seat I can buy that would fit without to much trouble. With mine I would have to cut the plastic on the sides and remove the latches that hold the seat to the bike. Are you guys saying that an upholstery shop can do all that?

Nice seat! But - Nope - if that's what you want, you're gonna need a bike customizer to get it on the XJ.

The only way to modify the seat is to use the stock seat pan and have whatever kind of seat you want built on it. Anything other than that requires bike mods.

There are no replacement seats or seat pans for our bikes except the stock one, and the big-butt "King & Queen" model - and even that one is getting hard to find. Both, obviously, use the stock seat pan.

Hi everyone. I just joined the site and the last time I rode a bike was 30 years ago. Now I want to go again. Bought a 82 XJ1100J Maxim in prety bad shape. Have rebuilt everything except the carbs. Now rebuilding the carbs, new needles, cleaned the seats and ultrasonically cleaned the carb. While waiting for shaft seals, which were cracked and brittle wanted to paint the tank. This is on the way but are looking for the gold emblems that go on the side and the emblems on the side shields. Any one know where I can get them with the GOLD stil on them? My emblems are down to the plastic.
