My throttle has a bit of wiggle room before it actually starts letting gas through. Is this minor annoyance a difficult thing to correct?

It's pretty easy - you'll notice a nut and adjusting "sleeve" on the cable under the throttle grip. Loosen the nut and turn the sleeve until you have about 5mm free play. If you turn the sleeve too much, you'll open the butterfly valves in the carbs, so be sure to leave some slack!
(and tighten the nut when you're done too!)

Should be an adjustment on the cable on the metal tube at the handle. But a little wiggle is good - you don't want it so tight that it does not close all the way.

Make sure you swing the bars fully from left stop to right stop while it's running to make sure it doesn't change the idle when you least want it.

I have the same problem with my bike, when I bought the bike the throttle was chewed up so I replaced it. I think the stupid kid at the parts store gave me the wrong throttle cable because its to long, the nut is all the way backed off minus 2 threads and i can still turn the throttle a quarter turn before it actually grabs, I've gotten used to it but it is on my rather extensive list (towards the bottom) of things to do.
