advice on welding

    i want to do some welding on my maxim and some people have told me i need to disconnect everything electrical or i will fry it and some people have told me i just need to disconnect the battery so i am wondering who is right

    i would sugget that you unplug and remove any of your electrical items just to be on the safe side.

    When I weld on any of my vehicles I have always had the battery disconnected. That's it. Don't know if that is the proper way, but I have never had any problems with my electrical stuff afterwards.

    Brent,
    Disconnecting your battery is a recommended practice for piece of mind.
    I would also counsel you to disconnect the TCI and regulator as the TCI doesn't like spikes and I just don't know what might happen to the regulator. I'd err to the side of caution on this topic.

    I agree, disconnect the earth first from battery and then the TCI and regulator, as well as the alternator from the loom. When we weld on new type jap trucks we get in and disconnect the computer under the dash, not just the battery like in the old days.
