Folks, I'm going tomorrow to pick up my next victim...errr... project.

It's a 1980 XJ650 Maxim-I (non-yics). It comes with a windjammer fairing (no clear piece) and a luggage rack. Motor turns over, clicks through all the gears. 28K miles on the clock. It's friggin nasty. Sat in a barn forever. Carbs look semi-usable... Best part: $100. I'm thinking about turning it into a cafe bike, since the 650 has a fairly narrow profile... The 'jammer and the luggage rack will likely come up on for sale very soon...

I'll take some pics as soon as I bring it home.

On a sadder note, I think I'm gonna part with the Honda in a couple of days. My wife decided that she likes the Seca the best (which happens to be MY bike) so I have to thin the herd to justify another "project".

    Wheee!

Well, it's home... along with about 10 pounds of dirt.

    I got a good poker hand going... 550, 750 and now a 650.

Stero, those highway bars looked like headers when I first looked at the pics...I was laughing. You should have that thing polished up in no time. I love my Maxim, comfy bike.

Here in the South, we call that color "Plum" - "Plum Ugly". Looks like the thing has some real potential, though.

Nice, but makes me think I overpaid for my Maxim-I,,,,, $200. And you got that fancy purple, mine came with $0.89 can of flat black. Mine had the same amount of dirt though. Yep, don't have to worry about the YICS.

Have fun and hopefully every seal and gasket isn't gone on yours, like mine. Maybe you could go with some kind of 30th Year XJ anniversary edition theme???

Lets compare assembly line numbers,,,, mine 4H7000323. Maybe they were born the same day

wow. there's chrome under all that dirt! A quick hose-down reveals some good looking chrome and aluminum.

oh, and I had no idea this would work:

I'm thinking about cutting up the seat to match the Seca tank. Whaddayathink?

I agree! They look like something off an old Schwinn... I'm putting a set of Clubmans on it.

I just tore into the carbs. Miraculously, everything came apart without any damage to the critical parts... The jets are trash, along with one of the mixture screws. Someone has made a half-hearted attempt at cleaning them before. I wish they didn't.

I'm putting together a shopping list for Chacal. In the meantime, I'm gonna take the bodies to our UJM shop and dunk them in the ultrasonic tub for a couple of days.

Just a minute here! My Beemer is purple (mauve) and the ladies LOVE the color! Besides, it shows your sensitive side.

Yes, the Ladies do. I've had more than one tell me to keep the purple cause its sexy. What they really mean, is that THEY"D look sexy on it. They'd love to see themselves on it. Not so embarrassing for her, but for you?? Eh.. Decrease in Man Points by 20

They may even take your Man Card away for riding a purple bike. Good find, none the less.
