I'm installing a universal cafe fairing on my maxim, and i'm wondering if anyone has any tips for getting the v brackets properly adjusted (or does it just require a long and tedious trial and error session?)

this is the fairing in quesiton, though from what i've seen, all the 'universal' cafe fairings are about the same:

Are you sure that faiing will fit your headlight? I thought the XJs used 8" headlights, though that may just be Secas. It looks like that one on eBay wants a 7".

    Hope I'm worng,

    Greg

no its a 7" headlight. i've already fit it on the bike, so i know it fits.

the problem is with the v brackets that mount on to the bolts that hold the headlight assembly on.

i looked at hessenr00ts's post about his fairing, but he didn't go into detail on how to mount it. mine looks exactly the same, though, so i'd imagine they have similar mounting kits.

tomorrow i'm going to give it another go and try and get it mounted.

When I put my fairing on I did use the same blots that hold the headlight assembly on. I had to do alot of tweaking with the V brackets. You can bend the V brackets and get it so that the fairing sits really snug with the headlight. I can try and get you some pics if that helps. Remember to put the headlight back in the right way. I put mine in sideways so that was a little annoying until I noticed what the problem was. Good luck.

after a lot of gruntwork, some help from my friendly neighborhood vice, and a lot of swearing, the fairing is on, the headlight reassembled, and I a much happier person.

How does it help with wind? Where does the wind hit you? On the helmet or below?

it helps with the wind a little, but its certainly not a windjammer. Does cut down on bugs slamming into my chest, though.
