Holy PooP! that is one nice bike! congrats on making such a beautiful hunk of metal, I, hopefully, will try soemthing like this when im like 28... so 11 yrs from now. I want to put something like a gsxr, cbr, or seomthing like that, a 600 in the frame... and i would liek to rig a yoshi exhaust, efi... and ya, basically update the engine but have the frame the same. total rippage, sweet sound, and cruiser comfort, oo, i get chills thinking about it.

Was the font end a bolt on?
does anyone know, are triple trees and the frame neck basically compatible across makes and years?
My 550 Seca does have an FJ triple tree and forks already, but the R1 inverted forks are killer.

I definitely like the front end on that bike. Also wondering if it was a bolt-on or if it required some clever modification.

I still think the coolest thing about those pictures are your sleeves ;)

Add me to the list of those interested in the front end modifications as I currently am rebuilding my XJ900 from the ground up.

Those handle bars have a great look too. The yoke looks like it might be custom, so I'll await your confirmation with interest.

DUDE! You just made my friggen week! That thing is dirty.

I'm sure you're going to get a million requests for "what did you do to ____?" or "where did you get ____?" ---Would you mind going through the mods and letting us know where things came from and what you did? This is seriously a great looking bike and I'd love to take a couple of pages from your book when I do mine.

    Some specific questions:

What do you think of that speedo? And which model number is it? They have like 7 listed on the website and I'm wondering which one I need to choose.

    What pipes are those?

But, seriously, I'd love to get just a description of the project, because it is dirrrrrrrty.

wow, thanks for the awesome feed back, The bike as it sits is about 80% complete , I still have the forward controls to fit - which are off a honda ace (2000) same with the headlight . As far as the front end, I cut the R1 spindle off flush with the top of the bottom triple clamp machined it along with the maxim spindle for a press fit, then welded a stop underneith so it cant come out. The top triple clamp is machined out of 2.5" billet aluminum. The tail section is still being fiberglassed and will house the stock tail light off course. The pipes are Jardine and sound fantastic. The speedo is from Electrosport.com, they have them for every application- just follow the charts, and cheap$$. The bike will be painted flat black with white on top of the fenders and tank with red pin stripping and something on the side of the tank.

    Cheers guys

Was there no way to fit the original spindle in the R1 triple clamps? I want to do the same thing, but I don't quite have access to a machine shop...

Dude that is a beast, I love it!!!!!!!. Ever think about modifing the airbox so that you could run a under tail exhaust? I think that would be cool aswell.

The R1 spindle is shorter and holds bigger diameter bearings, so no not really, there would have to be some sort of machining involved no matter what components that you would want to keep or get rid of. As far as the air box goes, I thought about putting pods on but I think one of the best features on the Maxim X is the "5 valve" chrome cover on the carbs, and I think only ties in good with the air box and it also makes the engine seem bigger or wider.
