So my problem is with the kick stand sensor. It must be bad because i took it appart and pushed in the lever and the sensor still says that its down. this is obviously a huge problem as the bike wont get into gear without the autoshut down. So if anyone knows how to disable the kickstand sensor completely that would be great to know

Remove the switch and short the wires together

ok so i put the two wires together and the side stand light goes off. But when i put the bike in gear again it still shuts off, and the side stand lights up right before all the lights go on. should i be doing something with the ground wire? As it is right now its just hanging off.

Should only be 2 wires - what bike is this? Please add your bike to your signature - helps keep us from asking all the time.

I have this same issue as my PO removed my side stand switch and twisted the three wires together. My bike still dies when put into gear. After much searching of the threads and studying the wiring diagram, I believe that to bypass the side stand switch you have to twist the three wires together and ALSO ground them. Grounding the wires is the only way to complete the circuit that activates the sidestand switch relay.

I was all set to try this when I injured my back straightening the garage before I started this task. Am I out of shape or what!

i have an 82xj seca 750cc bike. yes running to the sensor down by the kickstand is 3 wires. one is red, one is green, and one is black. After twisting the red and green one together the light at the warning display goes off telling me that the kickstand is up and im ready to go. So im wondering if i must do something with the ground wire. I tried pressing the ground wire to the frame of the bike but i did not try twisting all three while pressing it to the frame of the bike.

The wiring diagram shows that the switch just connects the wire to the atari and the wire that goes to the sidestand switch relay to ground, activating the relay and telling the atari that the stand is up. The black wire is already connected to ground. I'm sure that the other two wires must be grounded in order to replace what the removed switch was doing.

I just noticed that you said there was a red wire involved. Are you sure you have the wires that went to the switch because the diagram does not show a solid red wire that went to the switch. Be careful and make sure you have the correct wires. A solid red wire typically is for a positive voltage.

ok maybe it wasnt red, im only certain that one was green and one was black. but i tied the red and mystery color together and that does the trick on the warning sensor but doesnt work out so well when i put it in gear

I checked the diagram for the wire colors. There is a black, a blue/yellow and a green/blue wire. The side stand switch connects these three wires to ground. The circuit for the relay won't be completed unless the Blue/Yellow wire is connected to ground.

I had a similar problem but turned out to be the SS relay. Luckily i was able to take it apart and blow the rust out of the contact arm and glue it back together and worked like a charm. those little issues can give you the blues.

Ziggy, before you ride off into the sunset, you might want to rethink what and why you are doing this. The safety switch is there for a reason. Defeating safety equipment usually comes at your peril. I'd view this as a troubleshooting technique and short term fix for the moment. Get that switch replaced at first opportunity for peace of mind.

Hi, new member. I hope you guys can help. I just got an 82 maxim for my son to learn how to ride on. It started fine then when I got it home it wouldn't start. So after Searching it seems like it's the kick stand saftey like above. I put the clutch in kickstand up and nothing but the oil light comes on. Tryed to clean it up and pull it out and that didn't help. I was thinking of bypassing it for now. I mjust wanted to make sure there's 2 wires, do I just splice those 2 together? Thanks, I just want to get this "jerry rigged" for now while I order a new switch but I want to work on the other issues while I wait.
    Thanks
    T

Easiest is to unplug the safety relay which disables the whole bloody mess but DO NOT leave it that way, fix it right.

Components (some bikes vary:) sidestand switch, sidestand relay, clutch lever switch, neutral switch, safety relay. And all associated wiring/connectors; take your pick.

    Depends on the bike.

    All we know is it's a Maxim. I can help if it's a 550, others will need to jump in if it's a 650, 750 or 1100.

If you put your bike info in your sig and your location in your profile it makes this much easier...

It's an 82 maxim 650 or 750. I'm in Pittsburg, California. Couldn't figure how to put it in my profile.
