Im helping my housemate get a cheap bike to commute on.. This looks pretty decent, but i am unfamilar with the bikes in general.... anyone know about the quality / common problems to look for?

Found it for 900 obo.. little dent in the tank and needs the front wheel put back on... so i figure its a good deal as long as the bikes arent total junk

They are bulletproof and damn fine bikes. I had a 1995 model. So good they haven't really changed in 19 years. check out gstwins.com Very easy bike to ride and some simple carb tweaks really wake it up too!!! I've been looking for another one to race or streetfighter.

I'm a Suzuki guy, I've got an '82 GS1100G road bike, and an '81 GS550T cafe racer. They work and are not fussy! :D

    Ummm... it's a vertical twin, not a "V"

My friend had on with lightly modded carbs and it kept up to my 4 cylinder gs550e no problem. Engine dates back to the GS400 of the mid 1970's.

Re: 91 Suzuki GS500E good buy? (update he got a 2007)

So he picked up a full faring 2007 gs500F... I think its a decent looking bike (non faring looks better i think) I thought it was decently fast but it only has 50-60hp... and its a parallel twin.. so it has a few things going against it for a modern bike. Plus he got it at a stealership for 4200 bucks and i had about 4 or 5 early 90s FZRs (love them and want one) to show him for between 300-800 bucks that required a little work. I would love a 1000fzr... yay 140hp :)

To top it off i awoke to the sound of his new bike cranking and not starting, i tried to explain to him he needs to use the choke on cold mornings but was pretty sure that it didnt need it under any circumstances. :\ Becides that, it idles high randomly, which is probably just a mixture screw adjustment, or a vac leak, but i told him to bring it back and have it fixed since it payed for the warranty. I wouldnt ever buy something with a warranty because i like tinkering too much.

Not to mention its a first bike, so lets see if it gets dropped in the next month... Hes got that new rider thrill and is enjoying the bike, so thats really what matters. Hes not really into going fast and taking things apart like i am.
