    Hello everyone,
I have an '82 XJ550 Maxim. This morning I was on my way to work when my 20A main fuse blew and cut all power to the bike. I got a ride to the store and bought a pack of fuses and as soon as I touch the new fuse to the connectors it instantaneously blows without the key in the ignition. Can anyone tell me some possibilities as to the cause of this so I can check it out and attempt to fix the problem before having to take the bike to a shop where they will charge me an arm and a leg?

    Thanks!

You have a positive lead shorting out somewhere I believe. The electrical gurus will be here shortly :)

Check your battery leads to the starter solenoid (to the left of the battery) those are usually in pretty shady condition.

Thanks. I traced the wires back from the fuse box and found where it was shorting out and fixed the problem. There was just an exposed wire that touched the frame from vibration. The wire looked like it was still in good condition so I just wrapped it with electrical tape. If there's anything else that I should do to it, please let me know.

    Thanks Again!!
