carburetor help???

    im new to this forum, and could use some advice...im rebuilding my carbs in my maxim. i got my bike from colorado and i live in texas. i have to re-tune them for the proper air/fuel mix. my question is....does anyone know that if i bottom out the mixture screws how many turns up it takes to bring them back to the stock setting so i can go from there? thanks....bc.

    Hi Bryan' you don't say what year or carb type, if it is early 80s 2&3/4 turns out.

    yeah sorry...i guess i took that info. for granted..its an xj650h which i think is an 81..and i believe they are the hitachi brand...thanks. bc.

    You should have 110 mains- - 112's will also work.

    And if it's apart, new fuel line, add an inline filter, check alt. brushes, upgrade fuse box, visit the safety thread and look at your rear brake lining. We'll keep ya busy !

    yeah..thanks for the advice..i pretty much just ripped them apart, cleaned the hell out of them and ordered all new parts that needed replacing...new jets especially. they had been broken off and were hard to get out...carbs seem easier than i thought...the info. from this site really made it easy...thanks...im sure ill have more questions in the future....bc.

    bryanofcwa, make sure the carbs are clean, when you think they are clean, start over and clean again, when you are done cleaning for the third time, make sure they are surgical clean. I have gone through mine 3 times and eveytime i say "thats clean" and then i find a cleaning related issue!!!!

    im on my second almost third pass already....each time i go out there and mess with them i see something that i think could be just a little cleaner or smoother......im so damn picky about that kind of stuff.....a friend told me not to get the carb. cleaner on the rubber parts that i plan on keeping...is this true?? they sit in gasoline.....so why not?? bc....

    Well gas doesn't clean the varnish off your carbs, soooo.
