Hey guys, I just got a 750 maxim tonight and rode it the 90 miles home.

Looks like I got another project... and now I've got three bikes in the garage, the 750, my 550, and my 550 parts bike.

Spent $750 on it and I'm not sure I should have spent that much. Missing right cover, wiring is all "custom" without fuses, headlight now works off a separate switch mounted by a reflector. 21k miles. Speedometer runs 10mph under what I'm actually moving at.

On the other hand, I kinda feel like I saved some money (was willing to spend a couple hundred more for a 750, just not this one) which I now get to spend on parts.

Riding it home I found another issue with it... no lights behind my speedo or tach. Tried to stick to the speed of traffic

Vance and Hines 4-1 pipe. Rubber on both sides of the carbs must've been replaced in the last couple years. Tanks been debadged and repainted and it isn't the worst job ever, same for the left hand side cover.

Top things to do are get the lights in the gauges working, and fix the speedo issue. Also will be looking for a right hand side cover (of course there are 3 left hand ones on ebay right now). Also wanna replace the rear brake shoes, and see if the braking improves, I have a feeling that they need to be replaced, and since I saw that thread on delaminating, I will have to be taking the rear tire off anyway.

What do you think, did I do good or bad? Any advice on what I should start with? Already ordered the Clymer manual (I hope that's what that amazon link was for anyway)

I'd do it if deals like that were around here.

Fix your brakes first, with needing a side panel, you'll soon knock a hole in that 200 bukeroos. :(
