I'm going to be putting a new set of clubman bars on along with a new to me M/C. Is it going to be hard to put the old switches and grips on the new bars? Will the plastic throttle sleave come off without any problem?

i just switched my stock bars with daytonas. and it was relatively easy. the biggest problem i had with mine was that the old screws were so rusted and weak that they stripped. i ended up breaking the ignition switch housing and had to buy another one. so careful on the small screws if they look old and rusty.

    seca750,
Take a good look at your cable routing and check your trottle cable by turning your bars full left then full right with engine running to make sure it doesn't change rpms :) good luck

handlebars just need to be 7/8" OD to match with the switches on these old jap bikes from what i remember. Lowlifexj is correct in mentioning cable routing as well.
I had the same issue with my screws rusting when i tried to extract them for changing the handlebars. The screw heads on my switch housing stripped when i tried to extract them. I just sprayed some PB blaster (any penetrating oil should work), let them soak for a few minutes and then tried again. If that still doesnt work, you can get some screw extracting drill bits and run the bits in the opposite direction and they come right out. Usually.... :)

uzi How do you like the Daytonas?
Other than the screws, any other issues encountered?
Looking at a few sets on Mikes, trying to decide what to get...
    Also like their Euro bars....

I have a set of bars similar to Daytona's and I love them. They're lower than Euro bars and just higher than Drag bars. I find them super comfortable when turned back slightly and they look perfect on the bike

Ilm leaning towards the Euro atm, may do some improvised seat positioning and choose from there,,,, hehe some time with a measuring tape to fiigure out where I still feel comfy...

But it's down between those 2, maybe the superbike ones....
They all seem to keep the correct angle for the MC

Bar swaps are a 3 minute job. Drastic changes require re-cabling and re-routing, but as long as you don't go to 18" apes or clipons, it's a super easy job.

Call around to your local bike shops and see what they have by way of bars and then ride over and get one of the sales people to bring some out and get an idea of how they look/feel on the bike.

    Thats what I did.

The clubmans won't fit. They'll clunk into the top of the fork. It's because the handlebar mounts are so low. You can get risers someplace to lift the clubmans up about 1-2 in. I put Superbike bars on my 750 Seca and they fit good. 8) I put Superbike bars on my 550 Seca but they weren't low enough, so I flipped them upside down, big improvement! :)
As for the cables, you are going to have to be creative, with a little trial and error until you get the cables routed good. See my gallery for pics.

I installed the clubmans on my '81 650 maxim and they fit great no contact on the fork at all. They sit really low and will contact the tank if your not careful. When i installed them i had to re-route my throttle cable and brake line, not that big of a deal.

I read a thread here last winter about this issue, and the bloke wot started it wrote that he found risers on eBay. Do a forum search here, and track it down. If you ordered bars from JC Whitney, you can return them, and order a different style, not big buck$, just a delay. Look in my gallery to see the handlebars on my 750 and 550. 8O

The Clubman's WONT hit your forks on a 750 seca and yes they will fit.
They will however hit your tank slightly at full turn.

The only way they will hit your forks is if you lowered the front of an XJ750Seca, because to do so you would have to raise the forks 2" to clear the air valves.

I lowered mine in the front, and to avoid hitting the forks I bought stock risers off of a Maxim. I paid like $15 shipped to my door.

This is what mine looks like. Notice how they clear the forks that have been pushed up to lower the front.

This is a close up of the risers from when I had my dragbars on, these are the same risers I have on now.

Here is a set I found that are just like mine, they're more $$ though.

You just gotta make sure you get the ones that un bolt from the tripple tree, some of these are part of the tripple tree, and the only way to find them is usually by looking for the whole tripple tree.

There are other choices of course, and it all depends on how much money you have.

I guess I'll just have to put them on and see! If they don't work, then I'll have to keep my eye for some risers! Once they are on I'll try to post some pictures!

    Thanks for all the help!
