I think that's about the only Yammie of that era you could do that with. That's an RD400 two-stroke, they don't come much lighter.

Wheelies are VERY possible with the 550 Seca too, but I don't think a "stoppie" is possible the bike just weighs too much.

Beg to differ there.. Put a pair of discs up front and the 550 will stoppie very nicely. Some of the most fun I had at the drags was to do a burnout then when I go to stage CLAMP on the binders and stoppie and staged at the same time. So yes it can be done and done very nicely too :)

I was talking "stock" configuration. But since you brought it up, what 'donor' bike would provide a compatible left fork leg and caliper? The rotor mounting holes are already on the wheel... or is it more practical to swap the whole front end with one that has the same size steering stem?

I have the same question for an '82 650 Maxim.

There was a thread not to long ago with a link to a site.
I believe all you needed was your model and you could cross referance front ends that would fit.
There were quite a few for XJ's.

Yep, I'll see if I can dig up the link for you guys..

I've got a 99 suzuki SV650 front end sitting in my garage that might be going on the seca this winter =) Only mod needed is to press my steering stem out of my old front end and press it into the SV front end, then it just bolts right on.

There's TONS of bikes that have parts that can be relatively easily made to fit ours.

    Here ya go:

    http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=13144.html

There's TONS of info in that thread. Had absolutely everything I needed to find out all the info to make my front end decision. There's really very little math involved, it's just looking up your existing front end and cross reference a couple bearing sizes to find what fits!

Took the front end off of a FZ600 and used the front wheel from a vision so I could get the 18 inch rubber up front. Everything pretty much bolted up without any mods, just be sure to use the tripple tree from the fz 600.

ive done both wheelies and "stoppies on my cx500, its not a light bike either, with a single caliper and rotor up front, it can be done.

My '82 650 Maxim has a dual rotor front end that I was told is off of a 750, Seca I believe. Have never tried a "stoppie" but believe that it would do it easily. Wheelies, oh lord yes, it will do them with ease, DAHIKT!!!
Of course I had also been informed that an XS11SF would not do a wheelie under any circumstances. BOY, were "they" wrong about that!!!!!!!
If you wish to try it with one I would recomend that you have a change of underwear along with you.

A few years ago some goof backed over my old xj650 with a 3-ton, so i replaced the front end with an 85 xj700 one and it changed the ride and looked so sweet!

Looking at that RD400 takes me back. That was the third bike I owned and my first new one. I rode that thing from Maryland to Georgia one summer. I had to stop about every 80 miles for a fill up and man was my butt sore. They weren't easy on gas but nobody cared back then. It was pretty quick too. On a hard take off the front wheel wouldn't touch the street until third gear.
