Hey guys, thought all my electrical were over till yesterday. First off I do not have a battery sensor on the bike, I would be riding and the battery warning light goes on so I turned off the light and after awhile the battery warn goes off then awhile later it comes on again. according to the diagram the R/W wire is the sensor, goes from the battery to the main switch, out of the switch to the puter. I for the life of me can find a R/W coming out of the harness anywhere going to the battery. I think I seen one in the light bucket and pull it off to check it out. anyone have any ideas on this, driving me nuts.
    Al

Hi Al I recall a posting on bypassing the sensor using a resistor - A quick search should land you in the right place.

Is the sensor wiring not tucked up by the battery? Given your POs wiring mods anything could be possible.

It's not R/W, it's W/R (i.e. a white wire with a red stripe). Theres a single bullet connector for the sensor that should be within about 4" of the battery, unless a PO has ripped it out of the harness.

    Cheers,
    Paul

You will find a by-pass assembly in my gallery. Cheap and easily made.

My bad, yes I ment to say W/R sorry. No W/R wire anywhere around the battery.

Hi Bill. Yes I do remember that post but we need to find the W/R wire first. Does this connect somewhere in the bucket.

Looks great Robert, once I find the illusive wire we will do the mod.

Paul, can you tell me if the W/R sensor wire comes out of the same harness as the wires to the fuse box? The harness looks to be in tact but if the W/R is in there I will open it up to find the wire.

    Found the sensor wire.

A popular method for "Fooling the Sensor" is to Splice into the +12Volt Wire feeding the Rear Tail-light.
    (+ 12V Switched On/Off @ Ign Switch)

Place a wire running from the Tail-light +12 Volt Supply to the Battery Sensor Lead with a Resistor in line as shown in the Schematic in Member Robert Gallery.

When you park or shut-off the Bike -- the Current to the Instrument Panel is Shut Off allowing the Software to reset and let the Instrument Panel "Find" the Sensor Input OK when starting up.

Ok thanks Rick, well I went to radio shack and they did not have a 2K resistor so I picked up a 2.2k and 1k. I tried the 2.2k first while bike was running and the batt stayed on so I tried 2 1k put together and the same result the batt light stayed on, going to try one more thing, will let you know.

OK, got it to work, when you said Rick to hook it up to the tail light wire to allow the computer to reset that did the trick. when I had it hooked up to the battery the computer would not reset the battery sensor and the batt stayed on. All bikes are not created equal for sure, thanks all for your help.

Going to walk away from this one for awhile. Went out for a ride 15min down the road the batt light came back on.

Well I guess I lucked out then!

The Battery the P/O put in the bike has a wire sticking out of the middle of it. When I plug it into the sensor wire everything works like it supposed to. I’ll get the maker and model number and post it when I get home.

as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
my sensor lead is under the Positive post/lead on the battery. its where it was when i got it and its been working ever since...

the 'original' battery went tango uniform so i got a new battery specifically for the 750R. its about 1/8th" bigger all around and the positive is on the right (as you face it/towards the front of the bike) unlike the one it came with...

there is an extra vent hole in the proper place for the sensor but im thinking the sensor is a consumable part because ive never seen it other than in the dash 1...

you might try putting it on the pos terminal...

I pretty much gave up on the resistor, I tried a lot of combos and still had the problem so I took the sensor wire and connected to the rear running light and left it there. That is where it was before I started.
I tried direct to the battery with the same result, Batt light comes on. The confusing part is 2 weeks no problem till yesterday go figure. It took me awhile to find the W/R sensor wire, the person before me had the sensor wire hidden in the tape of the harness and connected a brown wire to it and connected it to the tail running light.
It's interesting that the last time the batt light came on I just disconnected the battery then hooked it back up and the light went off till yesterday. I suppose I could do it again but I really wanted to find the problem.

    Re: Battery sensor 82 XJ750 SECA""SOLVED""

Allot of problems that people have with there old bikes are self infliction or something a PO had done. In my case as I was pulling apart the front end to replace the head/neck bearings I noticed a broken wire going to the ignition, sure enough it was the W/R wire (Battery Sensor Wire) coming out of the switch. As I proceeded to take the switch off it broke in my hand, the two screws that hold the switch housing together pulled apart.
I most likely could have done a temp repair but was not worth it so I just ordered a new switch from Chacal. In the mean time I wanted to see if the broken wire was the reason why the 2k resistor mod did not work.
I jumped the bike through the switch plug, took the 2 W/R wires and put them together and tied it to the hot side of the switch, started the bike and looked at the cluster panel. Sure enough the battery light went out.

Moral of this story is when you are looking for help for a problem you may have and someone has a prov en way of fixing it and it still does not fix your problem it is most likely something else that is causing your problem.
