Want a windshield and need it to be around 19 inches to 20 measured from top of headlight. I am looking at the slip streamer sport S-08. I have a slip streamer spitfire that is 15 inches high from headlight now. To me its worthless on my bike. Im an average 5' 11 tall. I am sick of being pelted in the forehead by bugs. What do others have on there maxim's. Let me know how well you like them. Thanks

thanks for the photo's guys! The only problem i had with my current windshield is that the clutch cable sticks out so far that it rubs bad on the inside of the shield. I might have it routed wrong? just seems to be in the way.

    I have a Spitfire.

Love it. Just as Mike said, it's high enough to block the main bit of wind, but you still get that good blast on the face sitting up.
I took it off, and rode the highway.
    Hated it.

I need to get a new screen I think, unless someone on here has a good way of removing the scuffs on the screen...

As far as the clutch cable, can you route it another way? If not, why not cut a groove out of it?

Well i ordered the National cycle street shield EX. I Have the tinted spitfire now and yes it keeps the wind off your chest but thats it. I want alittle more. It gets tiring after 100 miles with no windshield at all. The wind noise is irritating to me too. Ill see how it works when i get it and post a reply.

I bought them @ good old walmart. First time I saw them there, probably the last too.

They have similar bullets @ denniskirk... Try looking walmart online though, for driving lights for cars. That's what they are.

What is the wattage of those? I know our bikes can only put out so much power.

    Too much :)

I only use them when it's really crappy out and when I am on the revs.

Yeah... well I left them on, on a ride home one night.
Rode around in town, realized my blinker was clicking on, then sticking on.

That was a warning from my electrical system...
Then I stalled it at a light...

No battery to start it up!
But I got it push started in one try, no biggy! lol

Depawl, have you tried a headlight restore kit to remove the scuffs? It might be worth a try to sand with wet 1000 to 2000 and then use a restore kit. That may save it.

It worked on the lenses on a dash panel, but they were not clear.

    Dave,

I have the SS-10 Viper from Slipstreamer.

    The dimensions are: 17 1/4" H x 22 1/4" W

It is just a bigger version of the Spitfire.

I got it from Midwest Cycle in Minneapolis. They have "blems" that they get from slipstreamer that are fairly well discounted.

I am 6'1" and it takes off the edge of the wind quite nicely.

    Depawl,
FWIW, I used Mothers plastic polish on my windshield to remove minor scuffs.

I have the Slipstreamer Spirit S-02 on my XJ750J and LOVE it.
I bought the rectangular handlebar adapters. They screw in under your rear view mirrors.
I rode to work this morning in 38 degrees F.
Pretty brisk, but the windshield made it tolerable.

Where did you and Mike get those sheilds? I'd love to install one after: Valves, sync, colortune, Handlebar grips, Saddle bags, Mirrors. (Gotta big wish list)
    Do you remember how much?

At the time it was free shipping.

One note on those shields. They mount with a ball in a rubber socket. I know a guy whose mounts will sometimes pop out. Just keep an eye on them.

I just put a slipstream Turbo on my bike to replace my broken one. So far I like it but have not had a chance to ride with it much yet.

I had a couple issues with the ball sockets also (just during the initial mounting).

Don't make the same mistake as I did though>> I shortened the bottom mounts so I could attach them to the very top of the forks without hitting the tank. Well, now I would like them about 1/4" longer to angle the shield back a bit more without it hitting the back of the speedo and tach.

The ball sockets were definitely a PITA to get seated right.

I wouldn't he has had it happen a couple of times - just something to watch.

Besides it's on a Harley it probably gets shook loose :D

Once mounted, mine have never moved.. even when I smacked it with my hand in attempts to give a stupid cage driver the one finger salute after she cut me off.
The good thing was I pretty much knew she was gonna do it so I wasn't surprised.

    Dpawl,

Somebody else on this forum suggested the Novus brand polish kit. I tried it and as pleased with the results. I didn't use the coarsest grit but the mid and fine grits made a big difference on my windshield. Here's the url for it on Amazon.

I used a hair dryer to warm up the ball mount socket (on the windshield)and they pop right in. Very solid built windshield. Much thicker than the spitfire windshield.

I successfully installed my Street Shield EX last night. If you have kids, make sure they are not around while you install this thing, you are going to be cussing like a sailor. I like the way it looks and it seems real solid but it is a total pain to install. I would rather remove my carbs and adjust my float heights than install that thing again. The lower ball pivot bars popped out on me a half dozen times while trying to install.

Still, now that its on I like it.

I like the height of that one jason. But those wings that cover the handles I think are unsightly..
    1985xj700,
Would you mind posting a few pics of your windsheild now that its installed? I'm thinking about getting the EX or the Deflector, and cant decide based on the given pictures on their sites.

As much as I hate to say it, the EX looks way to big and beefy, not sleek enough.. Love the height, love the tint, but too wide unfortunatly... I think I'm going to go with the deflector, even though its 15 1/2in tall.. I'm 5'10" I think it'll be ok cause it adjusts angle a lil.
