Won't word IIRC... you have to swap the front wheel as well.

The 82-3 750 Maxim front end is your best choice, and of the two, the 1983 version is preferrable (but harder to find).

Front wheels are all the same size between all 550 Maxim, 650 Maxim, Midnight Maxin, and Seca, 750 Maxim, Midnight Maxim, and Seca, and 11000 models. Even the 650 Turbo wheel is the same size, although it looks different. And the 700 models use the same diameter front wheel (19"), but it is slightly wider than all the others.

I've got the complete front end off of a 650 turbo that I'm working on swapping in on my 81 650 Maxim. I got the rear rim as well and had to source the rear drum (the turbo is bigger). I've rebuilt the whole thing and am simply waiting to weld up the broken centerstand mount before I finish everything.

My XK550 Maxim came to me with the front forks, wheel, disks, and master cylinder from a 750 Honda.

Guess it's the extermely rare Yamahonda.

I'm actually looking for a setup like it came with to return the bike to "original".

Unfortunately geography pretty much rules out a quick swap so good luck.

I just finished doing the same thing to my '81 XJ650. I got the forks, rotors and master cylinder from a 750 and calipers from an 1100. I'm looking forward to much improved braking. A few more little items and I'll be ready to bleed (the brakes, that is).

I really didn't think the XJ brakes were that bad until I got my Kawasaki Concours. Man, what a difference. Of course, it's 19 years newer.
