    Hi All,

It's been a while since I posted, but my starter clutch jammed a while back so that my starter motor did not disengage while the engine ran. It wouldn't have been for more than 20 seconds at low revs.

I have now pulled the engine apart and replaced everything that was required - including a loose screw in the starter clutch that led to the original issue.

I just tried to start her up after getting married and moving 3 times during the reassembly and all I got was a clicking starter solenoid. I will follow Gamru's starter circuit walkthrough when next I'm here at my folks where the bike lives, but I wanted your thoughts in the meantime:

Could I have toasted my starter by having it run with the engine? It was a reconditioned starter I bought a week before the starter clutch jammed, so I don't want to have to buy another if I can avoid it.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    In Addition....

I do recall there being a burning smell when I killed the motor as well.

the starter solenoid can click and still be bad, try crossing the big terminals with a old screwdriver and see what happens

Agreed - I doubt you killed the starter. You can take it off and bench test the starter with a charger too but this will tell you quick.
