this may be a stupid question to some, but i really dont know. i got my bike running...81maxim650....after messing with the idle and mixture...i got it running pretty good..i rode for around 15-25 minutes and it started sputtering and wouldnt respond well to the throttle.....it wanted to die when idling unless i gave it a little gas. i got home messed with it a little, and from then on i drive for about five minutes and then it starts doing the same thing....it will die and i have to sit there for a minute before it starts...then it will run like crap. after sitting for about 10-15 minutes it will start right up and run great..only to do the same thing again...does it sound like its getting too much gas and flooding out?? brand new plugs so i cant tell yet by that...dont really know much else.. this is my first venture into engine mechanics....thanks.. bc.

Sounds more like you're running out of gas. Have you tried running with your fuel shutoff valve on Pri? If it gives you the same problem runniing on Pri then you may have a restriction in the fuel delivery system like a plugged fuel filter (if you have one) or rust in the fuel tank or valve.
I'm sure the wizards will be along here shortly with better ideas so stand by.

you know what....i almost thought that...when im riding it doesnt look like theres fuel in the filter, but when i stop riding should it be pouring into the filter??? it seems like it runs fine with whatever is in the filter and carbs, but then it uses that and there is no more...when it stops you can see it going into the filter..i have my valve in the on position.

i think i got the problem solved...my line was dribbling fuel into the filter....hence....no fuel in the carb=running out of gas...i blew out the line and cleaned out the petcock i think its called....it was old paint and crap in the tank that clogged it up....thanks johntc....you were right...and helped confirm my uneducated suspicions....bc.
