Hi what is in the tool kit and do I need it? Also how much would one cost? I had one under my seat parked behind my house on campus but now the fuse cover and the tool kit is missing along with the owners manual.

I have seen them on ebay but they always go more than I'm willing to spend.

Not a complete list but I carry

8/10mm + 12/14mm wrench. Pliers, a socket for the plugs and a spanner for the shocks adjustment. I believe the original also had a screwdriver, I carry a compact screwdriver kit and a pressure gauge along with a small roll of electrical tape and a spare plug just in case.

You want enough stuff to handle minor emergencies.

In lieu of a Fork Bag, I have a fanny pack strapped to the front. (It will be a fork bag when I stop going nuts with the other purchases.) I could completely disassemble the bike on the side of the road with what's in that bag. In fact, when I'm in the garage, I don't go to the toolbox; I go to the fanny pack. Sockets/wrenches/allen wrenches/extra plugs/cable repair kit/screwdriver or two/electrical tape/fuses...

I have the original toolkits on the bikes, but I don't use them.....they're there for show. The original tools are so weak that you'll bend/break/round-off/etc... them. I would recommend putting together a kit of the tools you DO use, and keep those exclusively for the bike...don't use them for ANYTHING else or else you WILL put them down somewhere ELSE and you WON"T be able to find them when you DO need them. Basically you end up making a whole new bike toolkit but with GOOD tools.

I ride an xj650. It doesn't break down. OF course, now that I SAID that...........But really, I've been riding it for 6 years, and have put 24,000 mi on since I got it, and have not had one breakdown. I did have one flat tire, but was within 300 yards of a friends house. Thats all. Now in answer to parts, I have three more bikes in boxes and two complete parts bikes that I can rob parts off of at home.
