    Just stole it from his thread..... Click on the images and you get a closer view of how he has it setup... You'll see it's header, then S10 turndowns. Now if there's a collector between or not. I don't know, but I"d have to guess no. So with out the rejet, pods and with collector. I'm sure we'd get a somewhat half decent sound, but without rejetting and running it right from the collector.

    The best part of living in Kentucky is that if you can sit in or on it and move it down the road it doesnt matter what it looks like, sounds like, or what moves it. No inspections! And I can guarantee there are archaic Harley Davidsons that are louder with mufflers than my XJ with straight pipes! CHOP AWAY!

    I just carefully and neatly drilled four 5/16 inch holes around the inner stock exhaust outlet, then painted whole end piece black to protect it.

    Signficantly improved the sound. Still tolerably quiet at low RPM, but howls nicely up top.

    Cost = Free
    Time = 10 minutes.

    Hammerhead, can you post a pic of where you drilled??? I'd love to see that. I like the sound of my XJ, but it needs to be deeper!

    Hammerhead- Possibly if you could get an audio or vid clip of it, that would be cool as well.

    SLKid, I'm telling you if you don't mind cutting just use a cutting wheel and basically cut a diamond shape in the end of the muffler, around the center hole. On mine the internals slid right out and it sounded great!

    Hammerhead, I have to agree, that does sound nice. When I bought mine, the exhaust was drilled out like that. Four holes around the stock outlet and painted black. I thought that's how it came stock, until someone asked me why my bike was so loud!

    Unfortunately no. The bike has straight pipes now.

    Did someone say louder pipes? I removed everything but the headers and used 1 1/4" pipe fittings to join the head pipes to 1 1/2" X 4' exhaust pipes without baffles. The long pipes give a deep throaty sound. Was pretty cheap to make to.

    Can someone please explain to me this need for exhausts that are loud(er)?

    Loud exhausts, whether on cars or bikes, significantly increase noise pollution, a significant component of stress in our world. Even if *you* like that throbbing base sound, is it fair, is it decent, is it ethical or moral to subject all those in hearing range to it?

    You should be looking at ways of making your presence in this world *less* offensive to others, not the reverse.

    Change "*less*" to *more* and "offensive" to obvious and you will have their safety argument.

    Its not about saying "Hey, look at me I'm cool!" but about saying "Hey, look at me, I'm here and you can hurt me by doing the wrong thing".

    Why do bike headlight always shine? To make us more obvious.

    I think there are far superior ways to have other people be aware of you than waking sleeping babies a half mile away ...
