Hey all. been riding a long time but never had to do this before, Would I do any damage to the engine by spraying a water based paint remover on the engine fins and base of the engine to get rid of the paint. Last p sprayed black paint on the engine and I prefer shiny.

I would think you could but if you spray the remover you may remove more paint on other things you may not want to. maybe brush it on

I was in wally world today and had the spray in one hand and the brush type in the other so I grabbed the spray thinking about all the little nooks in the fins. I was going to cover sections with cardboard for areas that I didn't want sprayed. I just didn't know if it would hurt the aluminum or if there were areas I had to be really careful with.

If you're using a standard methylene chloride stripper, it won't hurt aluminum. Also, there's a gel-type stripper caller Citristrip that's a bit more gentle but still gets the job done.

I had to go out to the shed to check the label and it says it has Methanol and methylene chloride. It will not look like the wizards but anything is better than what's on there now.
    Thanks for your reply.
