I am at a loss on this one. My speedometer won't work when assembled.
Every part works when I take it apart and check it. The drive works when you turn the wheel the cable is new and the speedometer works when you use the cable with drill. I put it all together it wont work. I was thinking that the new aftermarket cable was short inside but it seems to be correct. What could be the problem? Anyone have a similar experience?

Assem. to the wheel, and you rotate the wheel, does the cable spin.. could be your not seating it in the wheel part first then attaching to the speedo?

I checked that I made sure that the cable was seated into the drive gear and would not turn before hooking it to speedometer. It's just strange. It should work.

Unhook it at the wheel and spin the stub, the speedo should at least "bounce."

While it's unhooked, have someone sit on the back of the bike to elevate the front wheel and spin it. Observe the speedo drive unit: is the inner part (where the cable goes in) turning?

could the cable sheath have stretched enough that the core does not reach the speedo when assembled?

I have done that and it all works like it should. I even pulled the wheel to see if the drive gear tangs are good and everything works well. I unhooked the cable at the speedometer and I can turn it with my fingers and it will jump. Hooked to a drill i can get 40mph out of it. I checked to see how far I have to pull the cable out before it stops working and I can pull it out about 1/2 inch before it stops on both ends. I thought it was the drive gear and bought another one but when I got it apart mine was fine.

It's a long shot but try swaping the cable end for end

update...... I finally got around to working on this problem. I found out that one of the tabs inside the wheel was bent in a bit. It would turn the cable clockwise but not counter clockwise....the way it turns when going forward.
I bent the tab back into place and it works good now. It seems to read faster then I feel like I am going by about 10 mph. It could be just me. I had it up to 80 on a back road......I will have to clock it sometime, hopefully with out some blue lights behind me.
