I have installed the Stebel Magnums on two other xj700s without much problem. They always seemed to be louder before we bolted them down, but never thought much of it.

We were installing them on the recent project and I had some Stainless angle laying around and decided to use that for the bracket.
Well....it was WAY WAY too stiff. The minute you would tighten the bolt down, it sounded like you put the thing under water. Apparently they need a decent amount of flexibility to the mount to allow them to vibrate properly. My other mounts were all made of aluminum which undoubtedly flexed enough. The SS was just too stiff.
I ended up putting a big fat oring on both sides of the mounting bracket and lock-tighting the nut in place.
WOW what a difference compared to the other bike I installed it on.

So if you want it loud you need to have them "loose"

Hey mike, I just placed an order for these based on seeing them on 'plum crazy' during your visit to the great north. I actually even wrote down this little tip of yours so I wouldn't forget it.

It was good meeting you ;-)

    till next time

    Great meeting you to Josh.

You could venture down to the Lehigh Valley clinic in August if you're up for a drive.
It's probably 200 miles each way for you.

Otherwise I hope to catch you again next year.

Typically it is either the first or second Saturday in August.
    Dave Rea is the host.
He resides just off I-78 on the east edge of Allentown. Summit Lawn to be precise.
He'll probably post a notice when it gets closer.

Honestly Mike, I very well might take you up on that suggestion, I had a good time at this one and would love to go to another. Seeing the bikes and meeting everyone was great. Plus I am biting at the bit to get a good road trip in this summer ;-)

Depending on how solid I can get my ride before then, will have to see. I don't want to be leaking gas for 200 miles without knowing it, lol. Maybe I can even talk Carl into it and get him out for a bit o' fun again ;-P
