I think the one thing holding our engines back are the carbs.
Switch to the "slide" type carbs from a junkyard or E-bay would cost far less than $400.
I don't think the Hitachi's would like the vac "signal" from a hot cam, so you'd be buying jets, also they modify "customer core" cams. You'd be buying cams to send them; you'd still want your stock cams in case things didn't work out?

But don't let me stop you ! :p

not on this bike, but i have run VERY BIG cams with a crap ass vac carb, it works well.

regardless i was planning on ditching the turds for a single big bore FCR, or maybe EFI next winter, wich is when i would send the stock cams out.

i guess nobody here is running a cam?

Is it possible to run one larger carb, if I were to fabricate a single plain intake? This idea always intrigued me, I see that one guy on here fabbed up an intake and ran a single EFI system.. what kind of EFI was that any way?.. A newer bike or a small car?

I have read that just one of our carbs has the capacity to run a V8 ?

    hmmm interesting.

I know there is a formula for figuring out exactly what cfm carb you need acording to yout bore, stroke, max rpm cam lift, duration.... I'll have to find it and plug the #s in and see what we get. Maybe i'll yank the carb off an old geo metro 3 cyl. LOL

kinda off topic here (its my thread im allowed)....

looking at the EFI intake manifold, i was thinking holley 4bbl flange.

you can easily get a single FCR 39 (39mm bore) for under $200. tuning is CAKE with a single carb!

Wow, our engine (@ 100% VE) requires only 125 CFM. It seem as though ours would flow more than that. Still might play around with the idea sometime though.

What was this thread about?? Oh ya, cams...

I know its off topic but btw rightwinger, geo metros do not use carbs. They use TBI fuel injection.

Out of curiosity, where/how did you calculate this figure?

I was kidding about the Geo Metros, It was the only car I could think of with a 3 banger.

I just typed in Carburation Calculator in google and plugged in a few simple numbers... dispacement, max rpm, volumetric efficiency.

    came up to 125 cfm for a 750cc @ 100% VE topping 9500 rpm.

. . .but since at 9,500 RPM, we aren't at 100% VE, let's use 80% as a more realistic number. About 100 CFM.
We might be at 100% at the peak of the torque curve, but RPM would be lower.
