there is no turbo on the X. The X models are liquid cooled 20 valve motor vs the aircooled 8 valve motor. different rear wheel other than that very similar.

The X does make more power, higher compression and that 5 valve motor that will just about yank your arm off.
The X had mikuni carbs vs the hitachi I believe of the air cooled.

However the air cooled one is far easier to work on. Valve adjustments, X takes ... approximately ... 475 hours, on a air cooled one its like 12 mins.

Same with the carbs - the engine manifold side is longer on the X to clear the water pump that sits right under the manifold running off the top side of the clutch basket and that means, the air box side boots are barely 1/2 inch long. They dont squish enough when they are that short to get the carbs out. You have to stuff in the air box and then its a pain to get it to push back out.

Then of course there is the over heating and water leak problems due to the fact that its got those things.

Having said that, and having done all of the tasks I mentioned above (with the exception of a X valve adjustment) I love the X.

The thing to remember is, it accelerates like a sport bike, but it turns and stops like a cruiser. Easy to get in over your head with that sorta power.

    Cool.
    Srinath.
