i'm still restoring my 550 and have discovered that both the front caliper and master cylinder are frozen stiffer than a fish stick.I'm wondering if other models will fit? IE 650,750? I tried to loosen them up bit i ended up having to drill the master off the bars as the allens were rusted in solid too.
    Any Ideas?

I had a problem with my front brake caliper that sounds similar to yours...Mine is an 82 xj650. The whole system was completely frozen and was locking-up my front brake to the point that I couldn't get the wheel off.

What I ended up doing was loosening the bleed screw on the caliper so that all of the fluid that could drain out would...however, after all of that fluid came out the master cylinder still had the same amount of fluid in it as before i loosened the screw. I tried to pump the handle but it didn't work.

So I ended up using a big plastic syringe to force brake fluid up through the system backwards towards the master cylinder. I had the mc cap off which i had to use a drill to bore out the holes because the screws were so stripped. It was very difficult to inject fluid into the system with the syringe. But, with enough force a huge chunk of something flew out and a geyser of brake fluid erupted out.

After that I filled the system back up correctly and bled it properly. Fresh pads and rotor but same hoses. Works like a charm. Hope that might help. Sorry it was so long.
